OIL PAINTINGS
Removing surface dirt accumulated over the years caused by air pollution, i.e. smoke from open fires and nicotine from cigarettes, etc..
Removing old discoloured varnish without affecting the painting itself. This will bring the picture back to its original colours.
Repairing holes and small tears by patching on the back of the canvas.
Lining ( or re-lining as it is often termed) is necessary if the painting has severe damage, i.e. large tears or flaking paint. This strengthens and preserves the painting after which the remaining scars
will be filled, re-touched and varnished.
No oil painting whatever the damage is beyond redemption as can be seen from the examples shown later.
